OK all, I am guilty of not getting this up and going in a more responsible way but it has been hectic and I apologize. There is much going on however and the public needs to be better advised of how their tax dollars are being spent or could be. Some of just a couple of the current issues coming up this week are:

A bike path between Boyne City and Charlevoix on the Boyne City Road.

The complete resetting of the Planning Commission for the entire county. I wish that the public paid more attention to their business and hope that questions start getting asked and answered. For some reason, although we have delayed the implementation of the planning and enabling act of 2008, now we seem hell bent to re-establish everything just as it was without considering the pro and con all the way through. Public input would be appreciated regardless of opinion!

More later!

Well, there is a lot going on and a lot that the public should be kept abreast of! We just had our organizational meeting whereupon we choose the chair, vice chair and set all committees for the year. We have discovered a better health insurance plan which will save the county hundreds of thousands of dollars. This plan is going into effect as we speak, once everyone is signed up the roll over will be complete.

We also discovered that there are a group of retirees who started retiring at 55 years of age but their health insurance was not adjusted and the county has been incurring tremendous costs on this front. I firmly believe this needs to be corrected and am helping push for an up adjustment in the retirement age. Why the board at the time would even consider lowering the retirement age when people are living longer is beyond me. It has been a very costly experiment!

Somehow the board started having backup liasions to all committees and not just standing committees which might require it. This created a big mess in terms of keeping track of things. If you are the board rep to something and you cannot make the meeting of a committee call a fellow commissioner or maybe its just not that important and you can get the information at another time. There has been a big "rush" to go to the meetings and many of them are just routine and don't always require the commissioners presence. These financial times call for practical people. Lets be sure we have them!

As time goes on I will be posting more of what your tax dollars are being spent on, hope someone is interested! I will post the board roster when it is finalized (soon).
